Menorca weather
Our guide to the weather and climate in Menorca
Menorca makes up part of the Balearic Islands and is full of nature, culture, charming cities, and a plethora of sandy beaches.
Similar to its sister islands, Mallorca and Ibiza, the climate consists of hot and sunny days during the summer months and mild temperatures in the winter, meaning you can enjoy the island all throughout the year. With plenty of accommodation from all-inclusive complexes to private apartments, as well as cheap direct flights from most UK airports, Menorca is a beautiful place to consider for your next holiday.
Weather during January
We start with the coldest month of the year and one of the wettest, so if you’re looking for red hot sunshine, January isn’t for you. However, if you want milder weather than the UK in winter and enjoy a quiet getaway – this month will be perfect.
Highs of 14°c and averages of 11° mean you will need to pack jumpers and trousers rather than t-shirts and shorts, but if you’re prepared, you’ll have a great time.
You can stroll along the beach, catch a sunset, and while the sea will be too cold at 15° to swim in, it will make for some lovely views. Cala Morell in the northwest boasts red cliffs that protect you from any strong winds. You won’t find much in the way of sand here but there is something quite mesmerising about this place, and for a quiet January afternoon it will be divine.
You may find limited venues and facilities open at the moment, but that won’t stop you from exploring by either car or foot. If you’ve hired a car you’ll get a lot further, even discovering some hidden gems on the island, all while keeping dry if the weather does take a turn.
With mild winds and 13 days of rain throughout the entire month, January isn’t everyone’s choice, but team that with 5-7 hours of sun per day, some beautiful places to visit, and cheap accommodation, this month is definitely worth considering.

Weather during February
The February climate is similar to January; you'll get 3 days less rain though. Accommodation and flights prices remain low at this time of year.
Do bear in mind that, like January, services will be limited in Menorca during February, but if you book a cheap all-inclusive holiday there won’t be much need for other restaurants or facilities outside your complex and there will be plenty to do during your stay.
If you like to swim, make sure you book somewhere with a heated or indoor pool – the sea will be too cold until around mid-May.
Exploring the island’s historic sites is one way to spend your time, and to start your adventure why not visit the Cathedral of Menorca – a stunning building inside and out. Located in Ciutadella, you may also want to visit this idyllic city that boasts a harbour, rich culture, and places to unwind.
Take your umbrella or raincoat with you in February, enjoy the sunshine when the clouds fade, and relish in some relaxation.

Weather during March
This month sees a boost to the climate and March is a pleasant time to visit. The temperatures rise by 1°, the hours of sunshine increase to 8, while the days of rain per month fall to 9.
The start of the spring season is here and the winds will be present as light breezes – so let’s head outside as more places begin to open.
One of the must-see attractions is Menorca’s highest point – Monte Toro – a popular place that would be ideal to visit in March when crowds are fewer. You can walk, bike, or drive up to the top, where you’ll be met with some outstanding views, and considering that Menorca is mostly flat, this will give you the opportunity to see the island from a whole new viewpoint.
It’s not quite sunbathing weather yet but that shouldn’t stop you from spending an hour or so at the beach. With longer sunny spells and highs of 15°c, head to Cala en Porter, set in a small cove surrounded by stunning cliffs, you’ll find it easy to play a few beach games here.
Spending some time in Cala en Porter itself is a great idea too – walk around the shops and enjoy a pitstop at one of the bars or restaurants. You will also find plenty of accommodation here and it is a lovely place to take your break if you like everything close by.

Weather during April
The climate improves again in April where you will get 18°c highs. Lows of 11° may still make it somewhat chilly at times, but with 8 hours of sunlight, it will be comfortable enough to be outdoors for longer.
If you’re not worried about the odd shower (rain is expected over 11 days), you are looking for mild temperatures, and well-priced accommodation – visit Menorca this month.
Hiking is a popular choice amongst tourists and the island’s terrain is perfect for this. Cami de Cavalls should be at the top of your list – it splits off into many trails and encircles the whole island. Avid walkers will no doubt want to conquer the entire distance but for those that want to have a more sedate stroll can stop off at any of the locations in between. Realistically though, you won’t do the whole thing in just one day, especially if you want to fit in some sightseeing along the way, but with so much to discover it is a good excuse to come back another time.
Preferring to lie on the beach, you could comfortably do this for a few hours now – Cala Tirant is a 90m sandy beach located in the north, popular for its water sports thanks to the waves, as well as the panoramic views.

Weather during May
May is a wonderful time to take a holiday - to have the sun kiss your skin after the long winter - and Menorca will deliver. Average temperatures are 18°c now and highs of 22° make it feel like summer is just around the corner.
With 8 days of rain forecast for the entire month and 9 hours of sunshine per day, those days spent on the beach are now in your sights. Throw in that the sea temperature is 18° and you’ll also be able to enjoy water sports such as kayaking and diving. The winds should be light so you shouldn’t experience too many strong waves.
Cala Galdana Beach is lovely at this time of year – with white sand, turquoise waters, and forested cliffs, it is an idyllic spot to spend your days. You’ll find most of the facilities are available with the preparation of peak season underway.
If you’d rather explore the island, why not head to the capital – Mahon. Here you can visit the fish market, wander around the shops along the charming streets, enjoy a tipple at the gin distillery, cruise around the harbour, or simply relax at one of the many eateries.
The weather will be comfortable, there won’t be too many crowds, and you’ll be able to explore at your own pace.

Weather during June
June is a great time to visit Menorca, with all the qualities of summer without the huge price hike and overcrowded beaches. There will be more tourists compared to the last few months, but schools will not have closed yet so it’ll still be relatively quiet.
Temperatures between 22 and 26°c mean you can wear your t-shirt and shorts, and even with lows of 18° you can comfortably enjoy the days thanks to 11 hours of sunshine. The number of rainy days drops to 5 and the sea will be an inviting 21°, so let’s head to the beach.
Son Bou is one of the most popular beaches in Menorca so it would make sense for you to visit in June when it is not too busy. Blue Flag awarded, it has fine sand and clear waters. You’ll find an array of facilities available and access to the sand is easy. We’d recommend this beach to spend the day at and if you have accommodation close by, you’ll get some lovely views and fabulous beach days.
For those wanting a little more excitement or to try new activities, you will be pleased to know that everything is open now and there won’t be too many queues to try the things you want. These can include a jeep safari that will you take you on a journey discovering hidden parts of the island, horse riding, a round of golf, jet skiing, or a trip to Lloc de Menorca (Menorca Zoo).

Weather during July
Temperatures in July make this month one of the hottest. Only 3 days of rain are forecast across the entire month, so there is very little chance you’ll see any showers on your trip. If you do, it really won’t be enough to stop any plans you have.
With highs of 29°c and averages of 25°, the beach is calling. Those who want to work on their tan will enjoy the weather this month and if your goal is to sunbathe as much as possible, we’d suggest visiting the quieter beaches such as Macaraletta in the southwest. It can be a trek to reach this point, but it is most definitely worth it for its white sand and clear waters, along with the serenity you’ll get from this natural, secluded spot.
You will most likely have to pass through its sister beach, Cala Macarella – here you’ll find it is busier, providing more facilities, clear waters, and beautiful cliff views.
Whatever kind of beach day you prefer, you’ll get some superb weather in July. The sea is also perfect to swim in at 24°.
When you’re in need of cooling off, head to Aqua Rock in Cala’n Bosch for a refreshing time at the water park where you can enjoy the wave pool, slides, and jacuzzi.

Weather during August
August is a dry and sunny month, hitting high temperatures of 29°c, and with lows of 21° you can guarantee there will be no cooler times. This is what brings the crowds to Menorca, along with 10 hours of sunshine per day and calm winds, there will be a lot of tourists on the beaches and making the most of the outdoor activities.
On the south coast you will find Santo Tomas Beach – ideal for couples or families, it has sun loungers and umbrellas to hire, countryside walking paths, and the promenade from where you can watch the sunset. Not forgetting the white sand and clear waters, as well as nearby bars and restaurants, you have everything you need for a full beach day.
Of course, there are other things you may want to do (with the amount of daylight in August, you’ll be able to fit it in). A boat trip would be fantastic at this time of year with the sun glistening on the calm water and the chance to see the island’s natural beauty, or perhaps you’d prefer a vineyard tour – learning the process and sampling the produce while basking in the summer sunshine.
Remember to take your sun cream and keep hydrated when the sun is at its hottest.

Weather during September
Tourists will pack out the island for the first week of September, with it getting progressively quieter as the weeks pass by, thus if you enjoy the warmer weather without the hustle and bustle, take your holiday towards the end of the month.
Temperatures will be in the mid 20’s which is perfect for some time out and about, and although the expected days of rain is 10 out of the 30, this should only present as a light shower. Bear in mind also that you may experience the odd thunderstorm, though winds will be calm and the sea, at 25° means water sports and swimming are absolutely possible.
Cala Blanca Beach has golden sand, clear waters, and facilities for hire. The pine trees and cliffs make for some lovely scenery, and with a sloping shore it is ideal for younger children.
Nearby there are restaurants, bars, and shops for when you want to stretch your legs and refuel.
Venture to S’Albufera Nature Reserve – a beautiful spot for nature lovers where you can stroll along the footpaths to reach woodlands, sand dunes, and the fishing village. The climate shouldn’t be too hot now, but you’ll marvel at the sun lighting up this beautiful part of the island.

Weather during October
Since many tourists have returned home the month before, October sees the island at one of the quieter times. This is great for those that can travel out of peak season because the weather will still be good and it won’t be too busy.
Average temperatures of 19°c and highs of 23° make it a lot more comfortable for exploring the island. If you’re a history buff, why not hire a car and visit the variety of museums in towns such as Es Castell, Ciutadella, and Ferreries.
Visit the beach during October and you will be pleasantly surprised – the sea temperature of 23° means you can enjoy a lengthy swim or partake in water sports. You will still need a high factor sun cream, but in case the temperature drops to a low of 16°, it would be wise to pack a light jumper too.
Cala Pregonda offers red sand, as well as reddish tones on the surrounding hills which contrast against the turquoise waters. There are no nearby places to eat so take your own refreshments, and you do have to walk through the pine forest to arrive at the beach. This only adds to the charm of a serene spot with ample photo opportunities and the chance to really relax if you so wish.

Weather during November
As Menorca prepares to enter the winter season it will be a haven of peace, and just right for anyone that wants to escape the cold that will no doubt be sweeping across the UK.
Temperatures are in the mid-teens now and there will be just 5 hours of sun per day. The sea remains warm at 20°c and this is enough to tempt some tourists to the beach.
The rain is spread across 13 days of the month and you’ll probably feel a moderate breeze.
To make the most of the sun (and sea) visit Cala Mitjana Beach, located in the south and known for its fine white sand and clear waters. There are no nearby restaurants or facilities so bring your own picnic if you want to enjoy a spot of lunch. Toilets are available so you will be able to spend a couple of hours here if you so wish. There won’t be any sun loungers or umbrellas to hire, but this is just another thing that makes the beach so untouched and beautiful.
If you do not hire a car during your holiday, think about staying in Cala en Blanes – you’ll find little unique beaches here, along with places to dine out, a children’s playground, and a waterpark. If you don’t want to travel too far but prefer everything in one place, take a look at some of the accommodation here.

Weather during December
December should be all about exploring as the winter sunshine will allow you to discover the natural beauty and historical culture of Menorca.
It might get chilly at times (with averages of 12°c, highs of 15°, and lows of 9°) so come prepared with your coat and perhaps your waterproofs too as it could rain 13 days over the month.
Low season is a great opportunity to do some sightseeing. You can head to any of the beaches which will entice you onto the soft sands to take in the views and watch the sunset.
Visit Cala Presili or Arenal d’en Castell to spend a little time near the water. It will be too cold for most to have a dip in the sea, but at 17°, you’ll enjoy the waves lapping over your feet as you stroll along.
Archaeological sites are ideal at this time of year, and you might find there will be moments when you feel like it’s just you on the island! Discover Trepucó in the east – a historic monument that is worth visiting, along with the oldest opera house, museums, and tasting some of the Menorca’s local dishes.
Factor on top that your accommodation will be a steal now and that you’ll have the chance to unwind and enjoy things at your own pace, December could be a fantastic time to get away.

The high season months are between June and September, giving you long days of outstanding weather. This also comes with larger crowds and a more expensive trip.
The shoulder season, May and October, are worth considering if you can travel outside of the peak season and you want good weather without the huge buzz of tourists.
The low season is for those who want to enjoy the island and their own company at a much more relaxed pace.
Thankfully Menorca has something for every kind of traveller and depending how long you take your holiday for, you may find yourself looking forward to your next trip here before this one is even over!
