We’re just around the corner from the end of 2016 and the beginning of a new travel year!
As we gear up for adventure in 2017, here’s a look at Google’s travel trend list, for the year that (almost) was.
It comes as no surprise that the gorgeous Maldives tops the list. With pristine islands encircled with aqua lagoons, white sand beaches and glamorous resorts, it’s a bucket list destination we all need to kick at least once in a lifetime.
2. Malaga, Spain
The port town of Malaga is the perfect base for exploration of Spain’s Costa del Sol. It’s also a buzzing city full of trendy boutiques, hip cafes and a fantastic waterfront for holiday strolling.
3. Tenerife, Canary Islands
Brits can’t get enough of the Canary Islands and with good reason! It’s an easy flight, with amazing beaches, incredible landscapes, facility-filled resorts and year-round warm weather to enjoy.
4. Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh is as much loved for its vibrant pub scene as for it’s fascinating architecture and mind-boggling history. Not to mention being an absolutely top spot for festivals.

The Big Apple is a perennial favourite and not likely to drop off travel bucket lists any time soon. With the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, an unbelievable night scene, theatre and top notch restaurants, it’s the ultimate city that never sleeps.

The home of the giant theme parks, Florida tempts families time and again to visit Universal and Walt Disney World. Top that off with stretches of coast, action-packed cities and shopping galore, and you’ve got a world-class holiday destination.
9. Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
When you want to take a short flight to simply laze on the beach, sip cocktails by the pool and dance under the stars, Fuerteventura is the place for you. It’s also a hub of water sports, with surfing, kite-boarding and snorkelling.
The Mayan ruins, the parties in Cancun, the fantastic shopping and the mouth-watering food simply scrape the surface of what Mexico has to offer, as a trending holiday destination for 2016.
