Stunning Destinations for Sun and Romance this Valentine’s Day [Slideshow]
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and, though we love Venice and Paris, what could be more romantic, than jetting off to a warm, sunny destination?
The good news is that some of the world’s most romantic spots are sizzling with balmy temperatures in February, so you can make the most of lazy days at the beach, cocktails by the pool and seaside dining under the stars.
From aqua waters in Africa to plunge pools set high in the jungles of Bali, here’s a look at some of our all-time favourites.
Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia.
North Queensland is well in the grips of summer, come February. The Whitsunday Islands bask under the rays, with coral reefs, white sand and resorts simply made for romance. To top it off, take a helicopter ride to view Heart Reef, which is part of the Great Barrier Reef, before you stop for a secluded picnic on famous Whitehaven beach.
Krabi Province, Thailand
The Andaman Sea in Southern Thailand is a turquoise wonder of marine life, soaring limestone cliffs and coral reefs. Krabi Province literally explodes with natural gifts, including waterfalls and national parks. Stay in a beach resort and spend your time island hopping, snorkelling and shopping in Krabi Town.
Island hideaways don’t come much more pristine than the one hundred and fifteen coral islands that make up the Seychelles. The Indian Ocean literally glows with transparency, on a backdrop of white sand beaches, granite cliffs and lush jungles. Go in search of rare animals, such as the Aldabra tortoise and visit the markets in the capital, Victoria, if you manage to leave your beachfront resort.
If you can wake up in an over-water bungalow and step out of your bed into florescent blue water, you’ve probably found Valentine’s Day heaven. The Maldives consists of private islands with resorts catering to couples, where all you need to think about is which buffet restaurant to eat at, whether or not you want a massage and if you should walk along the beach to the left, or the right. Luxurious spas, water sports, island hopping and superior service completes the picture, for the ultimate couple’s Valentine’s Day retreat.
If you love spending time in the outdoors together, Maui is the Valentine’s destination for you. Go zip-lining through the jungle, try mountain bike riding, hike through bamboo forests, surf and snorkel with abundant marine life. Romance is never far away, with stunning sunsets, a fantastic dining scene and utterly charming resorts.
Imagine staying in the heart of the jungle, with butterflies for company, a private plunge pool overlooking river rapids and exquisite cuisine delivered to your villa door. Bali’s Ubud offers just that, at an array of resorts that appear every bit as enchanting as the pages of a fairy tale book. The bustling town is full of traditional and modern restaurants, arts, crafts, markets, culture and the Monkey Forest.
