Romance is alive and well in the UK – if you’re looking for an unforgettable break with your partner, Britain has some of the most incredible experiences in the world. From quaint Cotswolds cottages to gothic hotels in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle, there’s endless variety to what you can find here. Read on for seven of the best romantic breaks the UK has to offer.

Spitbank Fort, The Solent

Completed in 1878, Spitbank Fort is one of the three sea forts that sit in the Solent. These forts were constructed in order to provide a line of defence for Portsmouth. In 1982 the fort was considered to be no longer a defence requirement for UK shores and it was sold on to private investors who turned it into a luxury hotel. There are just nine suites which means the fort is always intimate and relaxed – the perfect place for secluded romance. You’ll enjoy stunning 360 degree views of the Solent, dine in the Officer’s Mess restaurant or drink in one of a number of bars.

This effortlessly stunning gothic hotel is simultaneously grand and elegant – and the lavish baroque design that runs throughout the property in unlike almost anything else in the city. The boutique suites are decked out in splendour; every room is different, providing you with a unique experience. If you’re in Edinburgh but not staying at the hotel, it can be worth visiting the restaurant on its own, which offers indulgent Scottish cuisine in a grand setting.
