Your honeymoon isn’t just any old holiday, it’s the kind of once in a lifetime holiday that you’ve always dreamt of.

As such the Caribbean makes the perfect honeymoon destination, with a plethora of luxury resorts, all offering the ultimate in rest and relaxation, sports and activities, and gourmet dining, all under the beaming sunshine.

There’s truly no better place to spend your first moments together as a couple, so here are five of our favourite Caribbean resorts.

Barbados

If you want to take a Caribbean honeymoon but retain something of a British flavour, Barbados is the place for you.

It’s the Caribbean island which has the closest links with its colonial past and is even referred to as ‘Little England’ (don’t worry though, the weather is much nicer!).

So if you get bored of strolling down the romantic Bathsheba Beach, why not take in a game of polo or attend a garden party at the Barbados Horticultural Society.

Sandy Lane is one of the island’s most famous resorts and has played host to such famous faces as T. S. Eliot, Elton John, Barbados’ own Rihanna and even Queen Elizabeth II herself.

It even has its own 18-hole golf course and luxury spa.

Antigua

If you love spending time in or near water, whether it’s sunbathing on the beautiful beaches, or sailing the open waters, look no further.

There’s a thoroughly nautical feel around this island, including its most famous attraction, Nelson’s Dockyard, which used to be home to the British naval fleet in the Caribbean.

There’s a much more grown up feel around Antigua, with more of a focus on honeymooners rather than families.

For a true West Indian feast, make sure to head to the Home Restaurant, a must visit when on the island.

Turks & Caicos

Turks & Caicos is one of the most accessible islands in the Caribbean, only an hour’s flight away from Miami, and is made up of over 40 tiny islands, many of which are completely uninhabited and untouched.

From Providenciales (Provo to locals) you can hop on a private yacht and explore these hidden treasures to your heart’s content, strolling along the sandy white beaches and snorkelling in the lush blue waters.

Or you can explore the wetlands of the islands by kayak or paddle board to get a real up close and personal view of the wildlife.

As for where to stay, Beach House is a boutique hotel located slap bang on Grave Bay beach, which was recently named the world’s best beach by TripAdvisor!

Dominican Republic

For a Caribbean island with a definite Spanish flavour, look no further than the Dominican Republic.

This vibrant island has all of the beaches and luxury resorts that you would expect from the Caribbean, but it also caters to the couple who like a little bit more adventure.

For example, why not try windsurfing off the coast of Puerto Plata, whale watching, or hiking up one of the island’s peaks.

St. Kitts & Nevis

For a truly laidback honeymoon, head to St. Kitts or its neighbouring island, Nevis.

Two of the quietest islands you’ll find, this is the place to be if you want to spend your honeymoon lying in bed, lounging by the pool and sipping cocktails at the bar.

When you do drag yourself out of bed, why not hire a car and drive around Nevis? It’s only a 20-mile drive and you can take in all of the island’s small villages and old churches.

For the ultimate secluded romantic getaway, head to the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club, the childhood home of Frances Nisbet, wife of Horatio Nelson.
