Can You Guess Which Countries Are The Happiest?
Do you belong to one of the world’s happiest countries? The World Happiness Report, first published in 2012 by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, can let you know. The report is established by leaders in the fields of economics, national statistics and neuroscience. It aims to achieve understanding about societal well-being, to help countries pursue sustainable development goals.
The report breaks down the data via gender, age and region, finding that critical social factors, such as a good sense of community, individual friendships and investing in the lives of children play crucial roles in happy, independent and productive lives.
Somewhat surprisingly, the UK only ranks 21st out of 158 nations, which is one up from the second edition in 2013, and the USA is the 15th happiest country. Included on the bottom of the ladder is Chad, Afghanistan and Rwanda. The study also revealed that women tend to be happier than men in North America, Australia, New Zealand and south-east Asia, while men have more good cheer in Eastern Europe.
So, who are the lucky residents of the world’s happiest countries? Here’s a look at the top 10, in pictures.
