8 Unique Islands of the World I have Visited

Everybody wants to unwind and take some time out from their busy and hectic office schedules. The best place to do that is lying near eye-catching blue water holding a glassful of cuddles on the beach. I hope you all agree with me. Well, I will call myself lucky as I have visited some of the most alluring unique islands in the world. So, here is my list of some of the gorgeous islands I have had the chance to explore. I hope some day you have a chance to visit these islands too!

Maldives

I am sure by just reading the name you have started imagining gorgeous villas built on blue water, underwater activities, rich culture, and eating some of the scrumptious food, yes this place is a paradise. For the first time, I got to explore the underwater life and trust me it had an unforgettable experience. When I visited, the island was flocked by surfers. I visited The Atmosphere Kanifushi Maldives, a great spot for both families and couples. It has beautiful white sand and a gorgeous lagoon. Sun Island Resort (Nalaguraidhoo Island) is a spot of secluded coves. Malé is the capital city and this city has a long list of tourist attractions which include – Old Friday Mosque, National Art Gallery, Sultan’s Park, and National Stadium.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Visiting this island was an altogether new experience for me as it is a volcanic island. It has a shape like a giant sombrero and its natural beauty and captivating surroundings immediately attracts you. The island was explored in the 18th-century by James Cook who was a Brit and he named the island the ‘Pearl of the Pacific”. Its key feature is ravishing lagoons boasting technicolour turquoise. You can easily see turtles, fish and sharks swimming in the clear waters, the whole view is so soothing that I spent hours watching and taking pictures of them. The divine beauty of this island is matched with mouth watering cuisines. Other things that I enjoyed here were aqua safari (wearing a helmet), snorkeling and riding an aquabike.

Palawan, Philippines

This gorgeous island is surrounded by beautiful-looking blue water. The island offers so many reasons to explore this place. Whatever comes to your mind when I say paradise, Palawan has it all from gorgeous beaches to great surroundings. Various attractions of the island include fishing villages, emerald lakes, unique wildlife and much more. I love fishing, so I spent most of my time doing that. One of the key attractions that I want to stress upon is Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, it’s a part of World Heritage list. It is a limestone cave system with an underground river that attracts tourists from different parts of the world.

Seychelles

Located east of Kenya, I must say that this island is a picturesque place. The turquoise water, fiery sunsets, white sand and lush green jungles, I have to admit I wanted to spend my whole life out here but this was not going to happen. It is an unspoiled archipelago with coral and granite islands and jungles. Half of the total land area is protected and there are so many fish-rich marine sanctuaries and they also offer a great opportunity for snorkeling and diving. Lion Rock, a small islet, is a great place to explore which attracts lobsters, nurse sharks, lionfish and eagle rays. Some of the main attractions are Beau Vallon, Morne Seychellois National Park, Victoria, Ste Anne National Marine Park, Botanical Gardens, National History Museum and much more.

Santorini, Greece

This place is a group of five islands namely – Thirassiá, Nea Kaméni, Thíra, Palea, and Asproníssi. Santorini, with its beautiful surroundings, has become a popular wedding destination. I also put my photography skills to the test at Oia which is one of the most photographed locations in the world. When you in this part of Greece, make sure you have explored Ancient Thira, sublime sunsets, Akrotíri Archaeological Site, the black sand and beach of Perissa. Visit the Archaeological Museum where you get to witness finds from Akrotiri and Ancient Thira. I was amazed by looking at the chariot-racing images and the pottery. A visit to Art Space can offer you an opportunity of witnessing the finest work of Greece’s modern artists. If you love to eat, then there are great places where you can enjoy great food and drinks. Some of the must visits are Catch Bar – Restaurant, Taverna Romantica, Kapari Wine Restaurant, Melitini and various others. My job profile includes handling customer queries and their issues, last week my company organised a trip to Santorini and we got a chance to unwind ourselves. We thoroughly explored every attraction.

Bali, Indonesia

Welcome to the ‘Island of the Gods’, with breathtaking landscapes, sandy beaches, barren volcanic hillsides and rugged coastlines. Trust me this place has a holy feel to it as it is home some of the beautifully-built temples and rich culture. This award-winning island is visited by both religious and leisure tourists from around the globe. Along with spiritual, Bali is also known for surfing, diving, home to some of the most famous archaeological and historical attractions. Rejuvenate yourself at some of the luxurious spas, some of the best ones are Riverside Spa at Maya, Lembah Spa, Thermes Marins & Spa On the Rocks, and Royal Kirana Spa. If you are traveling with your kids, make sure you take your kids to Waterbom Bali for some splashing fun, water slides and be a part of different water-based activities. Here you can make the most of surfing, especially for the kids as they surf at the beautiful beaches (of course they are being watched by the trainers). Experience the wildlife at its best at Bali Safari and Marine Park.

Fiji

Besides the heavenly beauty of this island, I really liked the warmth and genuine smiles by the locals. Fiji opens her heart for the amblers, hikers, birdwatchers, etc. It is a place where you can do different things such as enjoying the nightlife at Suva, enjoy a relaxing time at Savusavu taverns and witness the sand dunes at Sigatoka.

There are lots of tourist attractions that are worth watching like Fiji Museum, Mariamma Temple, Tavuni Hill Fort, Navilawa, and Albert Park. If you are fond of seafood, then you are in for a treat as you get to eat the best of prawn, lobster, fish and cray cuisines. I thoroughly enjoyed the preparations and take my word for it, you will surely cherish it.

St. Lucia

We all know what Caribbean islands are capable of and St. Lucia is one perfect example of it. When you are here, one thing that you see the most are the mountains. Travel towards the southwest corner of St. Lucia to experience the most arresting and picture perfect sights. Let me narrate a bit about the beaches, traveling towards the north they are golden and towards south, they bear a silvery look. The peak season is mid-December to April, I also happen to visit at this time of the year and I have to say that it doubled my fun. Have a great time eating at The Cliff at Cap, Big Chef Steakhouse, Rainforest Hideaway, Dasheene, Boucan  and much more.

I had a great time traveling to these places and enjoyed discussing them as well. So, what is stopping you, pick an island and plan out your next holiday with your friends and family. Best of luck everyone.
