The Dalaman International Airport is one of the primary airports of Turkey and has 14 jet aircraft parking spaces. Turkish Airlines is the company of interest in transporting from Dalaman and around the country. Depending on where travellers are coming from, they may require a visa which can be applied for online via Turkish E-Visa. Visa and MasterCard are accepted and all figures are in U.S. dollars. It is noteworthy that if you arrive at the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, you may be able to purchase a visa from a machine. Citizens of certain countries can enter Turkey for 90 days without a visa, but the United Kingdom is not included on this elite list. For future reference, you should only make payments in Pounds Sterling and not use any notes of Scottish or Northern Irish origin. Visit the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more information.
While Dalaman International Airport is heavily trafficked, the primary gateway is Ataturk International Airport, as well as Esenboga Airport to a smaller extent, Milas-Bodrum Airport and Antalya Airport. The Dalaman International Airport is used for both domestic flights and international flights, courtesy of the new terminal. This airport is the third largest in Turkey, and the size is impressive, with twelve boarding gates, eight air bridges and a capacity to handle 35 flights at any given time. The new adjustments to the airport resulted in a total capacity of 95,000m2.
There are two terminals inside and they accommodate 2.5 million visitors per year. Terminals are separated by 200 metres and yet connected by walkways. While there are refreshments in the airport, tourists believe them to be overpriced, as you may end up paying as much as four Euros for a Coke or three times that amount for a hamburger from a fast food restaurant.
The airport is six kilometres from the town centre. It takes about an hour to walk the distance from the bus station to the airport, which isn’t too much if you don’t mind walking. The land itself is flat, making the journey easier. However, there are also plenty of taxi services as well as car rental businesses.
Most major airlines work with Turkish Airlines for travel plans, including British Airways for seasonal travel, Thomas Cook Airlines and Thomson Airways. Shuttle services from the airport to Dalaman are handled by HAVAS and MUTTAS. MUTTAS provides shuttling to and from Bodrum and Mentese, while HAVAS provides transportation to and from Marmaris and Fethiye.
The Dalaman Airport, specifically the International Terminal, earned the ISO 9001 Quality Certificate, as well as an environmental certificate, a food safety certificate and an occupational health and safety certificate. Its use of natural lighting has earned great praise for an environmentally sound building operation.
