The nightlife in Bangkok offers anything a person could want for entertainment. From underground bank-vault bars to roof top terraces, the city has an incredible nightlife venue. Comedy clubs, Calypso shows, Jazz bars and pubs all are lively and kicking in the heart and outskirts of the city.
Sixty-one floors above ground at the top of the Banyan Tree Hotel, the Vertigo and Moon bar is an outside location that is in the top 20 rooftop bars in Bangkok. Romantic and chic, any type of exotic cocktail, fine champagne, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages are all available. The atmosphere is trendy and the food is delicious. The Vertigo and Moon Bar is open daily from 5:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., weather permitting.
One of the most popular places to hang out is the sophisticated Jazz bar with a 360° view over the city. On the 31st floor of the Millennium Hilton, this incredible club has a sweet ambiance with a touch of class. There are two well-defined open-air areas in the bar, with a smoking area for those who wish to smoke. The view, coupled with the luxury of the hotel, can be intimidating and the bar is rarely full. But the view is unparalleled and worth a trip to the top if only for a brief visit.
One of the best views in the city, Sky Bar is 63 floors up and overlooks the Chao Phraya River. Not far from the Saphan Taksin BTS (Sky Train) station, the Lebua State Tower hosts the Sky Bar in all its glory. It remains one of the most popular bars and is often very crowded with lots of people who want to experience social heights of a different variety.
Cushioned sofa areas on the outdoor terrace offer a relaxing spot (if you beat the crowd) to just listen to music and watch the sun go down. This can be particularly difficult if the bar is congested because it can make you feel a bit claustrophobic when the crowds hit. The bar offers unique cocktails along with a huge selection of beers and wines.
For those who are curious to see what Bangkok’s best is all about, you won’t be disappointed. Caution is a must. Some of these places are deep dark pits and you definitely don’t want to go there, no matter how curious you are. Stick to well populated and well reviewed locations.
This fine establishment has a centre stage where every night 25 to 30 girls dance in sexy clothing to blinking lights and grinding music. This is not for family entertainment. Located on Patpong Soi 2, this bar is just one of the many of its type on a street that is noted for beautiful dancers and underground trading.
Two floors are available for your entertainment with the lower floor being somewhat calm compared to the VIP floor where much more debauchery takes place. There are single seats, and group seating available. If you plan on having a big crowd, it is best to call ahead and reserve the upper level so your group can be well accommodated.
The brightest and hottest street in Bangkok is Soi Cowboy. Baccara Bar is the last one on the street and has two levels of entertainment. The lower level can get extremely crowded with Japanese customers so the upper level is a quieter option if you start feeling overwhelmed. This venue can be particularly dangerous so hang onto your wallet and watch for pickpockets.
One of most distinct type of bars in Bangkok is the “Ladyboy Bars”. These are bars where transvestite men hang out and offer sexual favours to tourists or regular customers who are into this kind of entertainment. They are very popular in Bangkok and some of the most crowded areas on the Patpong strip. Ladyboys are not looked down upon and seem to be a common thing in Thailand.
Obsession is considered to be the best ladyboy bar in Bangkok. It is an open, roomy bar that is well laid out and there are many poles for beautiful dancing girlie boys. They don’t seem to be too friendly until you get ready to leave and then they can become exceedingly insistent. The best thing about the ladyboy bars is that there are usually no surprise charges on your drink bill. This is attractive because many of these types of bars have surprise charges that make no sense.
This bar is a bit different from the other ladyboy bars. There are two groups of women here. One group consists of natural women, the other, the ladyboys. Some think the ladyboys invest more in their femininity than the natural women and many people can’t tell the difference in the two. This bar is worth a visit to see this phenomenon, if you have the desire to do so.
Some of the other best bars in Bangkok include The Iron Fairies, Hemingway’s Bangkok, Cloud 47, Taksura RCA, Viva 8, and Brown Sugar.
